Naturopathic Medicine/Training Defined
Naturopathic medicine blends centuries old natural, non-toxic
therapies with current advances in the study of health and human
systems, covering all aspects of family health from prenatal to
geriatric care. Naturopathic medicine concentrates on
whole-patient wellness. The medicine is tailored to the patient
and emphasizes prevention and self care. Naturopathic
medicine attempts to find the underlying cause of the patient’s
condition rather than focusing solely on symptomatic treatment.
Naturopathic doctors cooperate with all other branches of medical
science referring patients to other practitioners for diagnosis
or treatment when appropriate.
Naturopathic Doctors (N.D.’s) attend a 4 year post-graduate
naturopathic medical school. To get accepted into a naturopathic
medical school one needs to have completed 4 years of pre-med.
A naturopathic Doctor needs a minimum of 8 years of Dept. of
Education approved training to graduate from an accredited naturopathic
medical school
In naturopathic medical school, the first 2 years are identical
to any medical school in the country. The second 2 years, instead
of learning about pharmaceutical drugs and surgery we study natural
therapies exclusively along with completing 2 years of supervised
clinical experience.
